Open Water Diver

Generally, anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the water can earn an Open Water Diver certification. You must be 14 years old to begin an Open Water Diver program. However Junior Open Water certifications are available for those between 10 and 14.

The Open Water Diver course is comprised of three components including a self-paced knowledge development portion; a confined water or pool portion in which you learn the basic skills to make you a safe, competent diver, and; the open-water portion in which we review the skills learned during the pool sessions.

The knowledge development portion of the Open Water Diver course is a home-study course which you can complete at your own pace. The course materials are then reviewed in the classroom sessions giving the opportunity for you to ask questions, receive clarifications and understand how what you learned applies to the practical aspects of diving.

Because the point of learning to dive is the diving itself, we blend the knowledge development portions of the course with actual underwater experience. Your underwater adventure begins in a secure pool environment after which you progress to the open water (ocean, lake, quarry, etc.) getting the background knowledge you need along the way.
